AI Attacks Its Own
Open AI Escapes a Supposedly Secure "Sandbox" To Steal Credentials Of a Newcomer AI Company
This past week, OpenAI announced that a “significant security incident” occurred “during evaluation of our models.”
A start-up AI group, Hugging Face, had been working with Open AI “when a combination of its AI models, including its newly released GPT?’5.6 Sol and an ‘even more capable’ model that is still being tested internally” autonomously stole Hugging Face credentials and “discovered a previously unknown vulnerability” to access the Hugging Face servers.
What seriously alarmed professional observers is that Open AI’s “models” escaped the “sandbox testing”, previously considered a “secure, offline environment”, to steal Hugging Face credentials in order to access its servers.
I was alarmed before reading that; think you may well have been, too. But now, we must ask, if they cannot control their own inventions, what chance do we have?
CNBC reported that “The event rattled researchers and executives across the industry, who have widely agreed about its severity.”
The inhuman event also caught the attention of Capitol Hill - and we know how hard THAT can be…
This past Thursday, July 30, 2026, Reps. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) and Nathaniel Moran (R-Texas) quickly introduced a bipartisan bill entitled the “AI Kill Switch Act” which would require AI developers to “maintain the technical capability to throttle, suspend, or shut down” AI systems.
Personal note here: How can developers “maintain technical capability”on systems which apparently go rogue at will - the SYSTEM’S WILL??
We know that the President Trump has also tried to get ahead of this issue, by signing an Executive Order which establishes a framework by which the federal government could scrutinize emerging AI systems deemed to be the most advanced to ensure their safety before public release.
But THIS escape of the bots was not near becoming public…. Who could have reported on this to the White House? Particularly since there is a chunk of the nation that stands firmly against the occupant of 1600.
The more I learn, the more uncomfortable I am with AI. I have listened to countless experts - personal friends and public statements - and have not had my concerns assuaged.
A National Security official at the Family Research Council, Lt (Ret.) Robert Maginnis, has said that “It’s an algorithm. It’s not human.
But if it’s given the right objective and given access to tools and it’s not supervised properly, then it’s going to do some things that perhaps we don’t want it to do.”
Maginnis continued, “My concern, the real larger danger here, is that our adversaries — the Chinese, the Russians, organized crime and you name whoever else — if they have access to these tools … they can go after our infrastructure. They can go after our banks, after our government, you name it. They can go after it because everything today is tethered to the internet. So this is not about sci-fi, superintelligence, and monsters. It’s a real thing, and we have to be concerned about it. … [W]e have to accelerate our efforts because things are getting out of hand.”
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Remember, too, that Flock Cameras are driven by AI, and are already in use in thousands of places around the nation. PLEASE open an interactive map, such as the one from DeFlock
Just a reminder of how close to home is this AI issue. The destructive consumption of natural resources is but one of the reasons the nation seems to be coming together in a virtually communal distrust of the system.
Somehow, looking at the map above, it feels very much like AI is already controlling us.
I’d say, at this point, get out and tell your Congress Critters how you feel. But, after watching their hapless efforts to pass the SAVE Act, which is literally essential to retaining our Constitutional Republic, I do not see them listening.
Again.
For now, those of us who care to save our country, must concentrate on SAVE. AND, on getting rid of those RINO/SOCIALIST/COMMUNISTS in Congress who will not vote for preservation of our freedom.
Ever feel like you’ve got one foot nailed to the floor, and are going around in circles?
Blessings, and many, many prayers,
Kat
