On March, 2025, conservation and public health organizations filed a lawsuit against the Trump Administration over federal failure to respond to a petition asking stronger federal controls over the toxic pollution from phosphate mining. The suit was filed FOUR YEARS AFTER the same groups petitioned Washington for Relief. in 2021.
The OBiden Administration was, at that time, too busy trying to purge patriots and fake charges against them, after the Jan. 6 coup, to pay attention to such things.
This is a deathly important matter, but this litigation is misplaced. It must be directed towards the states who profit from the existence of those mines. Local action, remember, is always more effective.
Begin at home, against state governments who allow or ignore the disaster which is killing humans and wildlife at a rapid fire pace. Florida and Mosaic Mining have been sued several times (2021 vs. Fl dept of Environmental Protection being the most rcent, to no avail. The courts must be brought around by public pressure. Water and land are being poisoned, and people and animals are dying.
Lawyers and politicians are not exempt from the dangers, they must be reminded. It is not all about the money…
Trump had been in office a scant two months when the 3/2025 suit was filed, and was faced with a myriad of disasters, as we now know. I am not making excuses, just using a rational mind, as, sadly, sometimes environmental groups forget to do.
We are always stronger at home. That fact never changes.
Florida mines the most phosphate in the United States in two different locations. Bone Valley/Fl Land Pebble, and Florida Hard Rock. The Florida counties in in the Bone Valley region are Hardy, Hillsborough, Manatee and Polk; farther north are mines in the Florida Hard Rock District, affecting the counties of Bradford, Hamilton and Union.
Beaufort County, on North Carolina’s east coast, is second to Florida. Says Grok, The Aurora mine, operated by Nutrien Ltd. (formerly PotashCorp), is the largest integrated phosphate mining and chemical plant in the world. It has an annual production capacity of over 6 million tonnes of phosphate ore, Nutrien Ltd. does not publicly disclose detailed financials for the Aurora mine, although it is estimated to have provided in excess of $900 million in revenue and over 1200 jobs.
Tallahassee gets large doantions from Mosaic Mining. According to Grok.com, the amounts have been “significant”, including the following, directly quoted from Grok:
“2023: a $25,000 Fundraiser for Florida Rep. Lawrence McClure, who sponsored the “radioactive roads bill”, which allows for the “testing” of phytogypsum use in road construction. Phytogypsum a gravel byproduct, is known to be highly carcinogenic.
In February 2021, 17 organizations petitioned EPA to better regulate phosphogypsum and process wastewater under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. This was when Obama and Biden forgot to listen.
Says the The Waterkeeper Alliance, “The wastes are currently exempt from hazardous waste regulations to protect the phosphate industry from the cost of compliance. Yet the nation’s largest phosphate manufacturer, the Mosaic Co., reported earnings of $2.2 billion in 2024 alone.”`
When I spoke to many victims of the radioactive toxicity of the Mosaic mines, I promised them I would not forget their cause. Although many outlets in the Florida area have published on the issue repeatedly, some will not. I hope for now, my Substack will help to make their cause a more public ourcry. People and animals are dying, but it is all about the money…
Please see the documentary made by the victims, PhosFate, on Tubi. They tell their story better than anyone else could; the victims of massive profits and political blind eyes know, only too well what a deadly place parts of Florida have become - for all of God’s creatures.
Please share this with others who care. Wikipedia tells us that there are currently four active mines in Caribou County, Idaho, and one being permitted in Bear Lake County, Idaho., as well as those in NC and Florida.
The US EPA under Trump must look at this asap but do not forget the politicians whose pockets are filled with this killer money. They will try hard to keep all of this DARK.
Blessings,
Kat
